Biography

At the age of 10, Diamondback Kid discovered Mike Allen on Hereward Radio, recording the show onto a C120 cassette while he slept and playing it back in the morning to check out the latest tunes from the US. When Streetsounds Electro hit the UK, an order was put in for each album on import vinyl and Diamondback soon became hooked on the beats, basslines and vocal gymnastics of artists such as Dr Jeykll & Mr Hyde, Captain Rock, Hashim and Mantronix, to name but a few. Diamondback got hold of an old drum machine, a 4 track tape recorder and a Tandy microphone and started making some music of his own.....

In his 20s, Diamondback found himself working at Trevor Horn’s Sarm Studios in West London, accomplishing his lifelong ambition to work in a recording studio, surrounded by music every day. While there, he teamed up with another hiphop head - The Loneshark - to form Sharktank Productions and their breakbeat remixes of Adamski, Ian Brown and Art of Noise gained the recognition of Fatboy Slim and Pete Tong, gracing compilation albums by both. After leaving the studios and following some work on ex-Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown’s second solo album, Golden Greats, Diamondback joined Brown’s road crew, touring worldwide with Brown throughout 2000 and 2001. In 2002, after Brown’s keyboard player left the band, Diamondback stepped up to the stage and performed as part of the band, hitting stages at Glastonbury, Fuji Rock Festival, Leeds & Reading and many more. During this time, Diamondback produced another remix for Brown - under the monikor ‘The Boy Bierton’ - which appeared on the acclaimed ‘Remixes of the Spheres’ album in 2002 and also co-wrote the tunes ‘Gravy Train’ and ‘Sweet Fantastic’ from Brown’s ‘Spheres’ and ‘Solarised’ albums.

After leaving the band in 2003, Diamondback began writing music for TV, composing rock, hiphop and breakbeat tunes for shows such as Grey’s Anatomy & America’s Most Wanted but this was not where his heart lay and, in 2008, Diamondback returned to his beloved electro and began writing pure electro tunes, rediscovering the sounds of the 808, the DX7 and the Vocoder.

Now, in 2010, Diamondback has honed his style and produced some new and exciting music and is hoping that 2011 will be the year that Diamondback Kid becomes the name on every one’s lips for electro funk.

Yo, Diamondback! What you gon’ play now?!!!
